Outpost Penestanan

Outpost Penestanan, Ubud Colive
  • OVERALL4/5 – Pretty killer spot
  • Affordability – 4/5 – Reasonable pricing, at the time of writing this, it’s ~$50 for a private room
  • Wifi – 4/5 – The wifi is fast and stable enough for video calls without issue, however if there were any bandwidth issues you’d be in trouble. The top floor also has a cowork with dedicated wifi as well, so that’s always an option.
    • Avg. Download Speed = 19.47 MBPS
    • Avg. Upload Speed = 20.02 MBPS
    • Avg. Latency = 67 MS
  • Sense Of Community – 3/5 – I would say not a whole lot of community vibes at this spot. Admittedly, I wasn’t being super extroverted so it could’ve easily just been me
  • Location – 5/5 – Pretty central Ubud, surrounded by cafe’s great restaurants, and a killer yoga studio across the street.
  • Amenities (Kitchen, Pool, etc.) – 5/5 – Kitchen, pool, cowork, what more can you ask for?
  • Cleanliness – 5/5 – Pretty dang clean and tidy

Places To Stay – Honorable Mentions

This is a section where I’ll add hotels / places to stay at that I either didn’t stay at, or had a flaw that made me unable to recommend them completely.

Outpost Ubud – While this place is quite beautiful (see video above). It’s really, really quiet and there feels like there’s no sense of community, feels more like a nice complex of condos, rather than a hotel.

Kuna Bali – This place is actually right next door to Outpost Ubud, and it felt like people were having a great time over there! The only reason I don’t recommend it is because they only have dorm rooms. While I staying in a dorm room really made my time in Rome special, I’m a bit to old for the dorms now 😂

Bloooming Lotus Yoga – Stayed here for a week long yoga retreat, it was pretty killer. Read all about it here.An intro to why I went to Blooming Lotus For The Yoga Retreat

Co-Works & My Favorite Places To Work From

A Map of The Cafes & Co-works I Worked From

Alchemy Cafe

  • OVERALL4/5 – This was definitely my favorite place to work from in Ubud. Lots of people, I even ran into someone I had previously met in Medellin (see my guide to Medellin here).
  • Wifi – 5/5Super fast wifi, you could easily do calls here (but there will be some background noise)
  • Service & Friendliness – 5/5 – The staff was super attentive and friendly. They were also totally cool with me camping out and working from there.
  • Amount Of Outlets – 5/5– Plenty of outlets
  • Amenities (Places to take calls, etc.) – 2/5 While there are lots of people working it doesn’t have any call booths or anything.

Yellow Flower Cafe

  • OVERALL4/5 – Incredible view, and a long windy walk way to get there which was cool (see video of walkway below)
  • Wifi – 4/5 – This was the fastest wifi I got at any cafe in Dominican Republic
    • Download Speed = 22.7 MBPS
    • Upload Speed = 10.2 MBPS
    • Avg. Latency = 58 MS
  • Service & Friendliness – 5/5 – The staff was super attentive and friendly. They were also totally cool with me camping out and working from there. The owners were very nice too, and super well travelled.
  • Amount Of Outlets – 5/5– Some info on outlets
  • Amenities (Places to take calls, standup desks etc.) – 2/5 – The ambiance is killer, I do have to say the location isn’t as prime as Cafe Conde. But as I mentioned, I’m partial to colonial plazas, so take that into consideration haha.

Places To Work From – Honorable Mentions

This is a section where I’ll add co-working places / places to work that I’ve heard a lot of good things about, I either didn’t make it to the place, or I went and personally didn’t like it. In service to you all, if the place seems to have enough buzz, I will still share it.A shot of Kopi Pangeran

Kopi Pangeran – Pretty cool interior design at this spot with solid wifi

KAFE – Not my favorite spot, but it had great wifi and was super busy.

Tellagang Rice Fields, beautiful spot. Not so great wifi, so I didn’t add it to my recommendations 😂

Exercise / Outdoors

Nature

Campuhan Ridge Walk

Hike that goes right through Ubud, despite this there is still lots of nature.

  • Length – 3.7 km (2.2 miles)
  • Elevation gain – 110 m (360 feet)

Video from a section of the hike

Tegallalang Rice Field

This is a larger loop in one of the prettier places I’ve been to in the world, you don’t have to do all of this but if you want to it’s pretty sweet.

  • Length – 11.7 km (7.2 miles)
  • Elevation gain – 426 m (1397 feet)

Jatiluwih Rice Terrace Loop

This place was super gorgeous, it’s a ways away so it takes some time to get up there but absolutely worth it.

  • Distance – 3.7km (2.3 miles)
  • Elevation Gain – 100 m (331 feet)

Video from Jatiluwih

Exercise

I didn’t do much gym stuff here, was mostly focusing on yoga

Ubud Yoga Center – This place was super beautiful with yoga classes of all levels.

Alchemist Yoga Center – Bit more expensive spot, but super cool place with a super interesting dome.

Gymnasium Bali – Sweet gym with daily rates

Hotel Tjampuhan Spa – This is a pretty badass spa to head to after working out
